When you reach the top of the stairs, you immediately see the source of the noise. Blunt force to the side of the building caused a portion of the wall to collapse, and it appears that this blunt force came from a portion of another building. Through the newly formed hole, beyond the piles of crumbled wall, a new, dark, decrepit passageway beckons you. Sam holds his candle as close to the hole as he can get, but not much can be made out besides hanging debris and wet, mossy surfaces. After a few long seconds of awestruck silence, Fred bursts into maniacal laughter.
“Hahahahaha, see? I told you, Murphy! This is it! This is the Machine we’ve been waiting for!”
“What in the hell…?” Murphy looks around frantically, trying to understand how this new building could have arrived here. The dull roar you had been hearing all day is gone now, and the resulting silence feels like stepping into a vacuum. Mark is the next to speak up.
“Hold on, crazy guy. What do you mean this is a Machine? Looks like a building to me…”
Sam responds to him, “Mark, god, you really know nothing about Machines, huh? If it wasn’t a Machine, it couldn’t have moved here.”
“How am I supposed to know all about Machines? I’ve hardly even seen any! And how do you know so much about them all of a sudden?”
Sam thinks about this for a moment. He responds, “Oh, well, I learned about them in my dreams. Ever since I found that metal thing… and then, Mr. Lawrence taught me the rest.” He looks respectfully at Fred.
Overhearing Sam’s words, Fred seems to be reminded of something.
"Hey Murphy, still got that old flashlight?” ==>
